🎉 Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Altimeter Issues
Garmin has managed to increase the size of the display on the Fenix watches while keeping the diameter the same. So you will get a 1.3″ screen on the base 47mm Fenix 7 version, while the
But in 1 year, I was completely disillusioned from the Fenix 6X Sapphire not able to measure for me the altitude gain. I wasted a lot of time with Garmin, I called, I wrote to support and beta testing team, I had 2 replacements without any explanation, but the problem is still not resolved on the 3 rd device and several Firmware.
The watch will in the default configuration attempt an automatic altimeter calibration during sleep if connected to a phone. It will ask the phone for coordinates (it will not use its own GPS), and then it will look up the coordinates in the internal DEM map to find the map altitude for those coordinates.

I am able to calibrate altimeter with gps but I can do nothing about Barometer and Thermometer. Reply. A dedicated community for Garmin users to ask questions, provide answers, and share feedback.
bmitchell09 over 6 years ago. I'm having an issue with my altimeter on my 5x. It goes up and down while sitting on the table next to me-currently a high of 3067 and a low of -467 over the last hour. I live at 1000 ft asl. Prior to that, I didn't notice any issue and the graph shows it steady until it moved up 2000ft in a short time and then
My altimeter reading dropped by 70mtrs today for no apparent reason and as for floor count I am talking mainly about a flight of domestic stairs which my FB Blaze counted accurately every day that I had it, the Fenix 5 counts sometimes then not others, but always under by about 60-70%.
I checked my Fenix 7X official altimeter (after an initial manual calibration to known altitude) against the altitude from Connect IQ app GliderSK (which is open-source, so I could check it does bog standard textbook altitude computations based on the raw baro pressure). And while the GliderSK computed altitude was pretty much always spot-on
My Fenix 5+ barometer failed and the two things you notice when this happens are the altimeter & temperature stop working. You can try dowsing the port but if not then you're probably looking at a replaced unit
Theory: There have been changes to parameters that block altitude changes due to ambient presssure changes while the user is not moving (a lot). The change was introduced on Fenix 7 before it made it to the Fenix 6. My workaround: yellow notes on the door that remind me to set the altimeter to Auto when I go out, and to Barometer Only when I

Fenix 7S: 42 x 42 x 14.1 mm. Fenix 7X: 51 x 51 x 14.9 mm. The Garmin Fenix 7 was announced in early 2022 with tons of improvements over the previous Fenix 6 generation. The biggest change is the addition of a touchscreen to all models, a first for the Fenix series, but don't worry, the hardware buttons are still here.
